At the Curricular Affairs Committee's meeting of November 20,
2000 the following matters were considered and are now presented to
the Faculty Senate.

Informational Matters
A. College of Arts and Sciences
1. Department of Economics
CHANGE: Prerequisite for ECN 327 to "Pre: 202 or
590 or permission of instructor."
2. Department of Sociology and Anthropology
CHANGE: Title and description for SOC 212 to read:
SOC 212 Families in Society (I or II, 3) Examines the role
of families in maintaining and changing society. Emphasis on
demographic and historical changes in family life, the diversity of
family structures and connections between the family and the

Department of Natural Resources Science
ADD: NRS 223X Conservation of Populations and

1. Asian Studies Committee
ADD: Interdisciplinary Minor in Asian Studies
Students who declare a minor in Asian Studies are required to
complete 18 credits including at least two courses (6 credits) from
the following: HIS 171, 172, 374, 375; PHL 331; PSC 377; RLS 131; THE
382. The remaining 12 credits may be selected from the preceding
group or from the following: 104; COM 337, 437, 491, 492; HIS 481,
495; JPN 101, 102, 103, 104; LAN 191, 192, 193, 194; PSC 303, 456,
457. At least 12 of the 18 credits must be taken at the 200 level or
above.
Students interested in an Asian Studies minor should contact
Timothy George in the History Department. A member of the Asian
Studies Advisory Committee will then be assigned as the advisor for
the minor and will assist the student to fulfill the requirements of
the program.
2. Department of Biological Sciences
CHANGE: Requirements for the B. S. degree in both
Marine Biology and Biological Sciences by allowing STA 308 to serve
as an alternative to a second semester of calculus.
3. Department of Chemistry and College of Pharmacy
ADD: Interdisciplinary Minor in Forensic Science
Students who declare a minor in Forensic Science must complete 18
credits including two credits of CHM 491 (2 credits) and three
credits of research or a practicum related to Forensic Science. The
practicum can be in the form of participating in a Forensic Science
Partnership research project or internship on or off campus. The
remaining 13 credits may selected from the following (courses marked
with an asterisk have prerequisites not included in this program;
students are responsible for completing these prerequisites prior to

(I and II, 3) Introductory course focusing on multiculturalism
as a major paradigm. Emphasizes the meaning of multiculturalism and
associated principles, concepts, and sociocultural factors as related
to assessment, intervention, and research. (Lec. 3) Pre: PSY 113

CHM 425 Advanced Organic Laboratory (I, 2) Techniques in
organic chemical research, including handling air sensitive
chemicals, flash chromatography, and instrumental methods of
structure determination. Separation of mixtures and identification of
components by infrared and nuclear magnetic spectroscopies. (Lab.
