Joint Report of the Curricular Affairs Committee and the Academic
Standards and Calendar Committee on Section 8.22.20 of the
University Manual.
At the November 2, 2000 meeting of the Academic Standards and
Calendar Committee and the December 11, 2000 of the Curricular
Affairs Committee the following action was taken and is now presented
to the Faculty Senate for confirmation.
Amend section 8.22.20 of the University Manual
to read as follows :
8.22.20 Any student who has met the
requirements for two different bachelors degrees will be granted both
degrees and will be issued two diplomas.
This amendment deletes the requirement of an additional 30 hours
of credit beyond the credits required for one degree.
Background
The possibility of deleting the extra 30-credit requirement was
introduced to the Curricular Affairs Committee during the 1999-00
academic year. At that time members of the CAC were encouraged to
discuss this possible change with their colleagues.
This fall, the Enrollment Services Advisory Committee recommended
to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee that section 8.22.20
be amended. This recommendation was forwarded to both the Academic
Standards and Calendar Committee and the Curricular Affairs
Committee.
The Academic Standards and Calendar Committee unanimously
approved the amendment to 8.22.20 at their November 2, 2000
meeting. On November 15, 2000, the faculty of the College of Business
Administration, and on November 30, 2000, the faculty of the College
of Arts and Sciences, also voted to approve the amendment. The
Curricular Affairs Committee considered the proposal on December 11,
2000 and voted to bring the recommendation forward to the Faculty
Senate for approval.
