Informational Matters

 

A. College of Arts and Sciences

Department of Communication Studies

ADD: COM 315X Communication and Social Influence (3)

Focuses on theory of social influence in interpersonal, group, and public settings. Topics include audience analysis, ethics, motivation, messages, psychological and rhetorical principles, source credibility, and attitude change. (Lec. 3) Pre: 206 or permission of instructor.

B. College of Human Science and Services

Department of Human Development and Family Studies - Dental Hygiene Program

ADD: DHY 390X Oral Health Internship (3-6)

Supervised experience in an approved professional organization such as a health department or community clinic. Specific details determined in consultation with faculty supervisor and off-campus liaison. (Practicum) Pre: permission of instructor. May be taken in one semester or repeated for a maximum of 6 credits. S/U only.

C. College of the Environment and Life Sciences

1. Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Economics

ADD: REN 102X Economic Games (3)

Students play hands-on games and experience how simple rules of choice can explain complex individual and group decisions. Applications: markets, public goods, strategic decision-making; implications for policy and environment. (Lec. 3)

2. Department of Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Sciences

ADD: AFS 202X Finfish Aquaculture (3)

Introduction to the culture of finfish, emphasizing general principles and hands-on experience. Topics include water quality, spawning, care and maintenance, and growth of selected freshwater and marine species. (Lec. 1, Lab. 6) Pre: 102 or equivalent.

1. Department of Communication Studies

ADD: COM 346 Social & Cultural Aspects of Media (3)

Explores social and cultural dimensions of media. Includes case studies of print, television, film, video, and computer-mediated communication. (Lec. 3) Pre: junior standing or permission of instructor.

2. Department of English

CHANGE: Curriculum for the B.A. in English as follows:

1) Remove ENG 458 and 468 from the 1660-1800 and Nineteenth Century Historical Periods and from the Genre Studies Focus Area;

2) Remove ENG 241 from the Pre-1500 Historical Period;

3) Add ENG 304 to the Genre Studies Focus Area;

4) Add ENG 480 and 482 to the 1600-1800 Historical Period.

B. College of Engineering

Department of Mechanical Engineering

a. CHANGE: Credits, description, method of instruction and prerequisite for MCE 313:

MCE 313 Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Experimentation (3)

Report writing, computer-assisted data acquisition and control, statistical and other measures of data uncertainty, propagation of uncertainty, curve fitting. Introduces basic instrumentation for measuring pressure, temperature, velocity and strain. (Lec. 2, Lab. 3) Pre: EGR 106, PHY 205, CVE 220, 341 and concurrent registration in 354.

b. DELETE: MCE 314 Experimental Problems in Solid Mechanics (2)

a. CHANGE: total credits from 124 to 128.

Professional field experience in biotechnology. The experience will be defined by a job description and learning contract arranged by the MIC internship coordinator, student intern, and relevant agency. (Practicum) Pre: junior or senior standing and approval by the MIC internship coordinator and department chairperson. A maximum of 12 credits can be taken as major credit. Not for graduate credit.

b. Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics

Application of economic principles and research methods to tourist and tourism industry behavior. Practical research methods for assessing economic, social and environmental benefits and costs of tourism development are examined. (Lec. 3) Pre: 105 or permission of instructor.

Students meet periodically throughout the semester to focus on issues of classroom management. (Practicum) Pre: admission into the elementary education program; 102, 250, 312, and 424.
