At the November 18, 2002 meeting of the
Curricular Affairs Committee, the following matters were considered
and are now presented to the Faculty Senate.

A. College of Arts and Sciences
1. Department of Biological
Sciences
CHANGE: Number for BIO 381
Introductory Entomology to "BIO 385."
2. Department of Communication Studies
ADD: COM 365X Media Bias in
America (3)
Examines the principal arguments for and
against the presence of bias in the American media. Starts with the
premise that the media are shaped by social, political, and economic
forces. Critical analysis of those factors that may cause either
intentional or unconscious bias. (Lec. 3) Pre: junior or senior
standing and permission of instructor.
3. Department of Political Science
ADD: PSC 310X Introduction to
Public Policy (3)
Examination of the policymaking cycle that
presents six generic approaches to designing policy using case
studies to illustrate these approaches including crime, war on drugs,
welfare reform, tobacco settlement, etc. (Lec. 3) Pre: 113 and
116.
B. College of the Environment and Life
Sciences
Department of Geosciences
ADD: GEO 150X Stratigraphy and the
Geological Timescale (4)
Introduction to geological time and
stratigraphy: history, theory, and practice. The geological timescale
is developed. Introduction to geological field methods in context of
reconstruction of Earth history. (Lec. 3; Lab. 2) Pre: 100, 103 or
permission of instructor.

Which Require Confirmation by the Faculty Senate
A. College of Arts and Sciences
1. Department of Economics
CHANGE: Requirements for the B.S.
in Economics Program, Theories and Methods Option, by allowing MTH
244 or 442 as alternatives to MTH 435.
2. Department of Physics
a. CHANGE: The B.S. in Physics and
Physical Oceanography program as follows:
1) Add OCG 110 and OCG 123 as
required courses in the freshman year.
2) Remove the requirement of a MTH elective at
the 300/400 level.
3) Replace MTH 461 with PHY 510.
4) Delete STA 409 as a requirement.
5) Delete PHY 452 and PHY 455 as
requirements.
b. CHANGE: The B.A. in Physics program
requirements for students also completing a B.S. in Electrical or
Mechanical Engineering to allow these students to complete both the
B.A. in Physics and the B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
programs within nine semesters:
1) B.A. in Physics and B.S. in Electrical
Engineering:
Waive the requirement for CSC 211,
PHY 331, and PHY 410.
2) B.A. in Physics and B.S. in Mechanical
Engineering:
Waive the requirement for CSC 211
and PHY 210.
3) For the B.A .in Physics and both the B.S.
in Electrical Engineering and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
programs:
Allow one approved general
education physics course to fulfill 3 credits of the Basic Liberal
Studies Natural Sciences requirement.

Anthropology
CHANGE: Title and description for
SOC 320 to read as follows:
SOC 320 Organizations (3)
Explores both formal and informal aspects of
organizations from a sociological perspective. Topics include
bureaucracy and its consequences; post-bureaucratic and post-modern
forms of organization; modern and contemporary theories of organizing
and organizations. (Lec. 3) Pre: One 100 or 200 level sociology
course. Offered in the spring of even numbered years.
B. College of Business Administration
ADD: FIN 352 Multinational
Financial Management for Non-Finance Majors (3)
Operation of currency markets, foreign
exchange parity conditions, determination of exchange rates, methods
of hedging currency risk, international capital budgeting analysis.

Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering
a. DELETE: CVE 315 Surveying I

1) CVE 240 Geomatics (2)
Science and technology of obtaining and
utilizing earth measurement data, including the description and
purpose of field surveying equipment, including the automatic level,
transit, EDM instrument, electronic total station and GPS instrument.
Includes the collection, sorting, storage, analysis and presentation
of data for engineering purposes. (Lec. 2) Pre: MTH 141.
2) CVE 241 Geomatics Lab (1)
Field and laboratory experience in the
operation and care of surveying equipment, (including the automatic
level, transit, EDM instrument, electronic total station and GPS
instrument), and the application of electronically collected field
data for engineering planning and design, using a CADD program. (Lab.
3) Credit or concurrent enrollment in 240, 250 and 251
required.

At the November 18 meeting of the Curricular
Affairs Committee and the November 22 meeting of the Graduate Council
the following matters were considered and are presented to the
Faculty Senate.

CHANGE: Title and description for
SOC 432 (or LRS 432) to read as follows:
SOC 432 (or LRS 432) Work, Employment and
Society (3) Explores the workplace and employment relations from a
sociological perspective. Topics included work systems, worker
alienation and organization, occupational identity, and the impacts
of immigration, feminization, and globalization on the workplace.
(Lec. 3) Pre: 100 or permission of the instructor. Offered in the
spring of odd numbered years.
