Curricular Affairs Committee the following matters were considered
and are now presented to the Faculty Senate.

CHANGE: Description and
prerequisite for AFS 321:
AFS 321 World Fishing Methods (3)
A survey of fish catching methods of the world
and the electronic enhancements to fishing that have increased
fishing power. Application of these methods to scientific sampling,
commercial harvesting, recreational and subsistence fishing. (Lec. 3)
Pre: 120 is recommended. Concurrent enrollment in 322 required.
Offered in spring of odd-numbered years,

ADD: PEX 278X Physical Activity,
Diversity, & Society (3)
Introduction to the multiple ways in which
issues of cultural diversity integrally and unavoidably shape, and
are shaped by, physical activity in American society. (Lec.3)
2. Department of Textiles, Fashion
Merchandising and Design
ADD: TMD 368X Quilt Culture and
Creation (3)
Historic and contemporary quilts in social,
cultural and artistic contexts. Styles, materials, techniques
introduced. Creation of a quilted object (bed cover, hanging,
apparel, accessory). (Lec. 2, Lab. 2) Pre: ART 101 and 103, 325, 335,
or permission of instructor.
C. Expedited process for changing programs in
which COM 101 or COM 103 or WRT 101 is an explicit requirement
because these courses no longer exist.
The Curricular Affairs Committee has
encouraged academic departments to complete and College Curriculum
Committee to process the following form as soon as possible to ensure
correct curriculum descriptions in the 2004-05 Catalog:

Explain (3)
Writing emphasizing the sharing of
information. Varieties and strategies of expository writing for
differing audiences and situations. Genres may include reports,
proposals, letters, reviews, websites.
WRT 105 Forms of College Writing (3)
Practice in writing papers frequently assigned
in introductory and general education courses across the curriculum.
May include summaries, syntheses, annotations, reaction papers, text
analysis, documented thesis-support papers. Emphasizes disciplinary
conventions.
WRT 106 Writing from Field, Print, and
Electronic Sources (3)
Introduction to locating and evaluating a
variety of sources and integrating them into papers. May include
observations, interviews, surveys, key word and reference data base
searches, and traditional library research.

1) AFS 312 Fish Habitat (3)
An introduction to fish habitat including
conservation legislation, identification and mapping, fishing and
non-fishing impacts, rehabilitation and socio-economic
considerations. (Lec. 3) Pre: 120. Offered in spring of even-numbered
years.
2) AFS 322 Laboratory for World Fishing
Methods (1)
An introduction to the basic techniques used
in fishing gear construction, maintenance, and operation. (Lab. 3)
Pre: 120 is recommended. Concurrent enrollment in 321 required.
Offered in spring of odd-numbered years
3) AFS 332 Interactions between Fisheries and
Protected Species (3)
An introduction to the issues associated with
interactions between fisheries and protected species including
legislation, and methods of assessing stock abundance and number of
interactions. Case studies of specific interactions will be reviewed.
(Lec. 3) Pre: 120. Offered spring of odd-numbered years.

principles to modern bycatch reduction technologies. (Lec. 3) Pre:
321 is recommended. Concurrent registration in 422 required. Offered
in fall of odd-numbered years.
