At the November 15, 2004 meeting of the Curricular Affairs Committee and on November 22, 2004 the following matters were considered and are now presented to the Faculty Senate.

SECTION I

Informational Matters

College of Arts and Sciences

1.  Department of Biological Sciences

ADD:    BIO 250X Introduction to Evolution (3)

Introduction to basic evolutionary processes and patterns in extant populations and the fossil record, including patterns of variation, natural selection, gene flow, genetic drift, speciation, diversification above the species level. (Lec. 3) Pre: 101, 102.

2.  Department of History

CHANGE:    Prerequisite for HIS 362 by deleting “Pre: 141 and  142.”

3.  Department of Philosophy

CHANGE:    Title and description for PHL 101:

PHL 101, Critical Thinking (3)

Identification, formulation and evaluation of both inductive and deductive patterns of reasoning.  Consideration of topics such as probability, reasoning about causes, fallacies, foundations of argument, and issues in logical theory.  (Lec. 3)

1.  English Language Studies Program

DELETE:    ELS 201 Content Based English Language Studies (1)

2.  Department of Theatre

CHANGE:    Curricular requirements for the BFA in Theatre by reducing the number of credits required to 120 credits for specializations as follows:

1)  Acting 120 credits

2)  Design and Theatre Technology 120 credits

3)  Directing 120 credits

4)  Stage Management 120 credits    

B.  College of the Environment and Life Sciences

Department of Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Science

a.    DELETE:    AFS 390 Vessel Operations (3)

b.    CHANGE:    Expiration for AVS 325X “Animal Management III (3)” to permit a third and final offering in Spring 2005.

C.  College of Human Science and Services

Department of Human Development and Family Studies

CHANGE:    Prerequisite for HDF 312 to “Pre: 201.”

At the Curricular Affairs Committee’s meetings of April 26 and November 15, 2004 and the Graduate Council’s meeting of October 29, 2004 the following matters were considered and are now presented to the Faculty Senate.

1.    College of Arts and Sciences

Department of Sociology and Anthropology

CHANGE:    Description for SOC 420 to read as follows:

SOC 420 Family Violence (3)

Surveys the extent, distribution, trends, and costs of physical, emotional, and economic forms of family violence at individual, dyadic, and cultural levels.  (Seminar) Pre: SOC 100.  Approved for graduate credit.

2.   College of Human Sciences and Services

Department of Human Development and Family Studies

*1)    CHANGE:    Description for HDF 457 X Supervision in ECE Settings (3) by deleting “Not for graduate credit.”

2)    ADD:    HDF 458X RI Early Learning Standards (2)

Prepares early childhood professionals to implement the RI Early Learning Standards in their work with children and families in various early care and education settings (Lec. 2) S/U only.

Central issues in the field of psychology, allowing in-depth study of contemporary or historical topics.  (Seminar) Pre:  PSY 113 or permission of instructor.  May be repeated with a change in topic for a maximum of 12 credits.  Prerequisite:  PSY 301 or permission of instructor.

2.   College of the Environment and Life Sciences

Department of Community Planning and Landscape Architecture

*CHANGE:    Description for CPL 410 Fundamentals of Community Planning Practice (3) by deleting “Not for Graduate credit.”
