of February 11, 2002 the following matters were considered and are
now presented to the Faculty Senate.

The nature of plants and animals of the sea.
Diversity of species and adaptations to habitats from the sea surface
to the depths of the ocean. (Lec. 3, Lab. 3) Pre: 101, 102.
2. Department of History
ADD: HIS 351 History of Women in Medicine
(3)
Examines the history of women healers,
including midwives, nurses, and physicians. Topics in women's
healthcare, especially concerning reproduction and childbirth, will
also be addressed. (Lec. 3) Pre: junior standing or permission of the
instructor.
3. Department of Physics
a. CHANGE: B.A. Program in Physics:
1) add PHY 306 as a required
course
2) replace requirement of two courses from CSC
201, 211, 212 to "CSC 211 and either PHY 410 or CSC 212."
b.CHANGE: B.S. Programs in Physics and in
Physics and Physical Oceanography by replacing "CSC 212" with "PHY
410" as a required course.

CHANGE: Last sentence of MUS 410 Applied Music
(2-4) to read "More credit requires additional preparation time,
higher levels of performance and senior level or music convocation

EDC 400 Middle School Curriculum (3)
Examination of contemporary middle school
curriculum including trends, issues, and models. Attention focused on
middle school children, middle school teachers, integrated and
interdisciplinary instruction, standards-based curriculum and
assessment. Undergraduates seeking Middle Level Endorsement are
required to take this course, preferably the semester prior to
student teaching. (Lec) Pre: 424 or 448 or permission of
instructor.
2. CHANGE: Title, description and prerequisite
for the following courses;
a) EDC 424 Teaching Literacy in the Elementary
School (3)
Fundamental knowledge base in literacy
development and instruction. Bridges theory and practice through
exposure to a variety of methods and materials used to create a
comprehensive literacy curriculum. (Lec) Pre: Prior or concurrent
enrollment in 312, 512, graduate standing or permission of
instructor.
b) EDC 425 Using Trade Books in the Reading
and Writing Program (3) Instructional strategies for using trade
books to develop skilled reading and comprehension, foster literary
appreciation, connect literature to personal experience, and promote
integration throughout the curriculum. (Lec) Pre: 424, graduate
standing or permission of instructor or concurrent enrollment in
424.
c) EDC 448 Literacy Practices for Content
Subjects (3)
Emphasis on the development of specialized
vocabulary, textbook reading techniques, and other study skills
needed to read math, science, social studies, business, and other
