Regular Meeting of the Faculty Senate on Thursday, September 27, 2007 in the Cherry Auditorium, Chester Kirk Building

1.  Call to order at 3:00 p.m.

Please note that prior to the call to order there will be a meeting of the General Faculty/Graduate Faculty beginning at 2:30 p.m. President Carothers will deliver a brief beginning of the year address at that time.

2.  Disposition of Minutes of Faculty Senate Meeting #8, May 10, 2007 (attached).

3.  REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

A.  Announcements.

B.  Activities of the Executive Committee (Minutes of 2006-2007 Executive Committee Meetings #29, #30, #31 and #32 and 2007-2008 Executive Committee Meetings #1 and #2 attached pp. 4-28) -- Vice Chairperson Martin.

C.  Recommendations of the Executive Committee -- Vice Chairperson Martin:

1)  That the Faculty Senate approve Committee Appointments for 2007-08 (attached pp. 29-35).

2)  That the Faculty Senate approve Executive Committee Report 2006-07-1: Changes to the University Manual and Faculty Senate By-Laws to Reflect Administrative Reorganization   (attached pp. 36-38).

3)  That the Faculty Senate approve Policy #80-1 Revised (attached pp. 39-41).

4)  That the Faculty Senate adopt the following resolution regarding Lab Fees:

Whereas laboratory fees are intended to support the extra costs associated with running a laboratory, laboratory fees should thus be levied only for those courses in which scheduled laboratories are a legitimate, integral part of an ongoing course curriculum.  The University Course Catalog identifies laboratories, and ought to be the standard by which laboratory fees are or are not levied, 

Be it Resolved: that if a laboratory is not stipulated in the Catalog description, it is inappropriate to charge laboratory fees, and any needed extra funds ought to be sought from other sources.

D.  Annual Report of the University Ombud for 2006-07 (attached pp. 42-44) – Ombud Rose.   

E.  Update on NEASC Accreditation Self-Study – Professor Kowalski.

#06-07--35 Curricular Report No. 2006-07-7A: Proposal for a dual Diplom/Master of Science program with the Technische Universität Braunschweig. Approved by President Carothers on May 28, 2007, subject to final approval by the Board of Governors.  (Approved by the Board of Governors on May 21, 2007.)
