At meeting No. 385 held January 31,
2003, the Graduate Council considered and approved the following
curricular matters which are now submitted to the Faculty Senate for
information or confirmation as indicated.

Course:
EDC 562X Methods of Intervention for
Students with Literacy Difficulties (3 ) Teachers will explore
methods and materials used for developing phonological awareness,
sound/symbol knowledge, word reading skills, fluency, comprehensive,
and vocabulary through readings discussions, application and
reflection. (Lec) Pre: Restricted to students accepted to teacher
education, or graduate standing, or permission of instructor.

School of Library and Information Studies
a. Changes:
LSC 593 Independent Work &endash;
change number of credits, description and prerequisite to
read:
(1-6) Supervised reading or
investigation in areas of special interest. Student must obtain
written approval prior to registration for the semester for which the
study is proposed. (Independent Study) Pre: 18 hours of library
science with B average, and LSC 557 or permission of instructor. LSC
593 and 595 may be repeated for a combined total of 6 credits.
LSC 595 Professional Field Experience
&endash; change number of credits, description and prerequisite to
read:
(1-6) Directed field experience
applying theory to practice in libraries, information centers, and
related organizations. Jointly supervised by a member of the faculty
and a professional in the cooperating institution. (Practicum) Pre:
18 hours of library science with a B average, 45 hours per credit.
LSC 593 and 595 may be repeated for a combined total of 6
credits.
3. Department
of Political Science
a. Change:
Change the program requirements for
the M.A. in Political Science by requiring PSC 553 and either PSC 580
or PSC 583 (deleting PSC 584).
4. Department
of Computer Science
a. Change:
Include STA 535 and 542 in the list of
courses a M.S. Statistics student has to choose for at least nine
additional credits.
B. College of Human
Science and Services
1. Department of Physical
Education and Exercise Science
a. Change:
Add PEX 552 as a required course in
the Teaching and Administration area of the MS in Physical
Education.
