Joint Strategic Planning Committee

Attendance: Robert Carothers, M. Beverly Swan, Ann Morrissey, Abu Bakr, Tom Dougan, Bob Beagle, Linda Barrett, Michael Rice, Jim Kinnie, Jim Miller, Domingo Morel, Joanne DiBello, Jim Kowalski, Dayle Joseph, Neil Cavanaugh. Guests: Linda Acciardo, Vincent Wilczynski, Cynthia Bonn and Dean Libutti.

Announcements: There were no announcements to be made.

Update on Enrollment Management: Dean Cynthia Bonn and Dean Libutti were invited to the meeting to give an update on enrollment management. They reported on progress of recruitment efforts for Fall 2007 and discussed possible bridge programs for incoming freshmen during the summer months.

Strategic Plan Division Updates: Academic Affairs: Provost Swan reported that in conjunction with strategic planning for increasing enrollment, Academic Affairs would have available funds to support additional faculty hires. Plans have been put into effect to hire 21 tenure-track faculty in order to keep pace with both enrollment and expectations for quality and accreditation standards. She thanked President Carothers for his support.

Strategic Plan Update: University Advancement: Vice President Beagle provided some updates for University Advancement. He indicated that the Capital Campaign has generated just over $41M so far, with over $16M for new endowments and other money is flowing in existing endowments. He also said there are another 143 funding proposals out to businesses. He reported that the branding initiative will involve the undertaking of a focus group analysis in the next couple of weeks and that a telephone survey was being developed by Ruby Dholakia and Dan Sheinen. They are also putting the final touches on the Branding website and that it will launch next week.

Strategic Plan Update: Student Affairs: Vice President Dougan gave an update on the Student Affairs division. He reported that Student Affairs was focusing on retention and are also looking at future sites for 600 additional residence beds in conjunction with the University's strategic plan. The Division is also working with the Student Senate for weekend programming in the dorms and will launch surveys for input from students in the dorms. He reported that the new housing, which is a Living Learning community, has had a positive impact on retention and has helped students adjust.
