Coordinated University aid to the Gulf coast: President Carothers, Provost Swan and Vice President Dougan reported on the projects already underway in response to the hurricane and suggestions were made for possible university-wide efforts.
Minutes: the Minutes from the JSPC's Meetings of March 28, 2005, April 25, 2005, May 9, 2005 and August 12, 2005 were approved.
Update on FY'07 Budget Request: Ms. Barrett reviewed with the JSPC the University's budget request for FY'07 and responded to questions about the request.
She also noted that the revised FY'06 Budget had been included in the package that had been sent to the members of the JSPC.
Draft of new Mission Statement for URI:The JSPC reviewed the draft mission statement as revised following the discussions at the August 12 retreat. .
After discussion, Vice President Dougan moved that the JSPC approve the Mission Statement and forward it to the Faculty Senate for consideration. The motion carried.
Provost Swan reported that the statement had been reviewed by the Council of Deans and said that she also planned to send a copy to the Student Senate.
Strategic Plan '06-'09: The JSPC reviewed the draft list of strategic initiative that had been identified at the August retreat and discussed them at length. There was no consensus by the end of the meeting as to the number and wording of initiatives.
The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
