Announcements:
The President announced that he is soliciting proposals from the
deans, vice presidents and directors for the Capital Campaign. He
said he will meet with the Dean's Council and would like for any
campaign items to come through this group.
Bob Beagle explained Marts and Lundy would assist the University
in conducting a feasibility study to test the receptivity of
donorship to marketing with regard to the campaign.
Strategic Plan Metrics
Chris Wessells, who oversees Institutional Research, gave a
presentation on the strategic plan metrics. The topics he presented
included:
- High school graduation rate
projections
- A strategy for longitudinal data collection
in conjunction with strategic priorities:
Digital Dashboards for executive management
- Peer institutions and the OHE
request
Discussion ensued regarding specific strategic plan metrics as
Chris Wessells provided clarification about how the numbers and
metrics were derived. (See related handouts)
Follow up discussions on academic
planning report:
Faye Boudreaux-Bartels raised concerns about the use of the PCA
and it accurately affecting what the University decides to measure.
Provost Swan responded that other programs that might not do so well
in the PCA are given additional considerations with regard to other
value added aspects. The Provost gave the Ocean Engineering
department as an example of one that continues to be supported. There
was discussion about the metrics and how the University plans to
measure retention.
The long-term strategy for starting and tracking data by
Institutional Research and on behalf of the University's strategic
plan was discussed. Aspects of a potential academic planning
"dashboard" measurement were discussed and the PQR with data metrics
was mentioned as one strategy that might be integrated. Consideration
was given to the question: What are the 5 things we could measure
that could be indicative of quality? Faye Boudreaux-Bartels cited the
need for identifying measurements and metrics that measure what we
intend to measure and contribute to our goals. For example with
regard to retention, she raised the issue of measuring small class
size, faculty interacting with students and other such factors that
have been cited as positively impacting retention.
It was noted that further discussion would be necessary to
measure things, which traditionally haven't been measured.
Further clarification was provided with regard to a question
about FTE 's and faculty positions that are phased out and it was
explained that these positions go back to the Provost for
consideration and reallocation.
Meeting adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
