Resolution #00-01-7
On April 26, 2001, the Faculty Senate adopted the following
resolution:
The Chafee Social Science Center at the University
of Rhode Island is contaminated with PCBs, a circumstance which poses
significant risks to the University's faculty, staff, and students.
In order to ensure the health and safety of the University community
and to restore and maintain an environment appropriate to the
University's academic pursuits, remediation of this condition is
urgently needed.
Resolved:
The Faculty Senate of the University of Rhode Island urges the
Board of Governors for Higher Education and the Commissioner of
Higher Education to assume their proper roles as advocates for the
University and to use energetically their good offices to attain the
additional funding necessary to remediate the unsafe conditions in
the Chafee Social Science Center.
Further Resolved:
The Faculty Senate of the University of Rhode Island urges the
General Assembly to act as stewards of the state's property and the
well-being of its citizens and to approve promptly an additional
appropriation sufficient to remediate the unsafe conditions in the
Chafee Social Science Center.
