At their meeting of February 1, 2001, the University College and
General Education Committee considered two items of business
requiring approval by the Faculty Senate. The first was a proposed
definition for the "engage in artistic activity" integrated skill
adopted by the Faculty Senate on January 25. The second was the
addition of three courses to the existing General Education Program
recommended by the College of Arts and Sciences. Following are the
UCGE Committee's recommendations. The full report requires
confirmation by the Faculty Senate.
Part I
Revisions to the General Education
Program approved
by the Faculty Senate on January
25, 2000
The UCGE Committee recommends approval of the following
definition for the eighth integrated skill "engage in artistic
activity":
Engage in Artistic
Activity - Course requires assignments which involve the
creative process in the practice of fine arts skills and aesthetic
appreciation with instructor and /or group feedback.
Part II
Additions to the Existing General
Education Program
The UCGE Committee recommends approval of the assignment of the
following three Film Studies Courses into the Fine Arts and Literature (A) area of the
existing General Education Program for a limited period of time.
These courses are subject to the provisions of the approved general
education proposal that each course in each area be reviewed and, if
the faculty member wishes, re-proposed in accordance with the new
guidelines:
a. FLM 101 Introduction to Film and Screen Studies
b. FLM 201 History of Film
c. FLM 203 Film Theory
