Additions to the General Education Program


 The University College and General Education Committee considered the following matters at their meeting of April 7, 2005.  They are now presented to the Faculty Senate for confirmation.


I.    English Communication - General (EC)

The UCGE Committee recommends that the Faculty Senate approve the following course for the (EC) area of the General Education program:

PHL 101 Critical Thinking (EC) (reading complex texts, using qualitative data, using quantitative data)

II.    Fine Arts and Literature Core Area (A)

The UCGE Committee recommends that the Faculty Senate approve the following courses for the (A) area of the General Education program:

MUS 292 Concert Band  [repeated for a total of 3 credits] (A) (engaging in artistic activity, reading complex texts, examining human differences) Diversity

MUS 293 University Chorus [repeated for a total of 3 credits] (A) (engaging in artistic activity, reading complex texts, examining human differences) Diversity

III.    Letters Core Area (L)

The UCGE Committee recommends that the Faculty Senate approve the following course for the (L) area of the General Education program:

HPR 201 for fall 05 Honors Colloquium - "Contemporary Sports: Healthy Pursuit or Obsession” (reading complex texts, examining human differences, writing effectively) Diversity

IV.   Social Sciences Core Area (S)

The UCGE Committee recommends that the Faculty Senate approve the following courses for the (S) area of the General Education program:

HPR 201 for fall 05 Honors Colloquium - "Contemporary Sports: Healthy Pursuit or Obsession” (reading complex texts, examining human differences, writing effectively) Diversity

PSY 255 Health Psychology (S) (reading complex texts, examining human differences, using information technology) Diversity
