URI students have become finalists and won some of the most prestigious scholarship competitions in the world.
Applying for a competitive fellowship can be a transformative experience. The process challenges you to acknowledge your academic achievements, your leadership ability, and your experiences, and to think about your goals. A fellowship award not only provides funding, but can connect you to other students and scholars with similar interests, and serve as a springboard to even greater opportunities.
The Office of National Fellowships and Academic Opportunities advises and assists qualified undergraduates, recent URI alumni, and current graduate students interested in applying for national and international scholarships and fellowships. While the office is strategically located and supported by the Honors Program, we serve the wider University community.
Recent Awards
URI undergraduate awarded prestigious Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship - Jasmin Valdivieso Sanches is among 100 students to earn the national honor, and the second from URI.
Three URI students and one recent graduate awarded research fellowships from National Science Foundation - Two seniors graduating from the University of Rhode Island this spring, a 2020 graduate, and a current graduate student, have been awarded prestigious fellowships through the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships Program.
21 URI community members named Demers Fellows to study foreign languages overseas - Twenty-one members of the University of Rhode Island community – 19 students, a faculty member and a staff member – have been named 2023 Beatrice S. Demers Foreign Language Fellows by the Rhode Island Foundation. 
Seven URI students will travel abroad thanks to prestigious foreign language scholarship programs - Seven URI students will be traveling abroad this summer thanks to two highly selective federal government scholarship programs that support foreign language and cultural study as a way to promote greater understanding between nations.
