Graduate Admission

Admission to Graduate School varies by department and program. What follows are general admission guidelines. Please refer to the program finder to gain a complete understanding of your particular program’s admission process.

Admission application deadlines vary by program. For deadlines, reference the graduate program’s informational page for dates.

Before You Apply

To be considered for admission into a graduate degree program, professional program, or certificate program, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States or a foreign institution of acceptable standing
  • Adequate undergraduate preparation in the proposed major field or equivalent evidence of an appropriate background for undertaking an advanced degree program
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the undergraduate career that can be confirmed with official transcripts from the institution (some programs may require a higher or lower GPA).

Applicant Checklist

A completed online application includes:

  1. Application fee paid online at the time of application submission.
  2. Personal statement
  3. Review each program’s requirements, but a minimum of two letters of recommendation from instructors, employers, supervisors or other professional colleagues must be submitted through the online admissions system. Hard copies will not be accepted.
  4. College transcripts from all institutions attended — Unofficial transcripts are sufficient for completing an application to the URI Graduate School. Foreign unofficial transcripts must be in English or translated by a translator. Official transcripts from all schools attended are required if admitted to the program. 
    • Official electronic transcripts may be sent via Credentials Solutions, Parchment, and National Student Clearinghouse within the CAS application.
      • When using Parchment, please be sure to select the CAS system you are using for the destination (for example, GradCAS, or BusinessCAS)
    • Official paper transcripts, click here for mailing addresses.
        • Foreign, non-evaluated official transcripts must be in English, or translated by a certified translator, and sent in a sealed envelope directly from the original institution or translator to:

    • Applicants from URI who are only applying to URI do not need to send official transcripts. Instead, contact us directly after the undergraduate degree has been conferred and we will validate your transcripts.
