First Council of Presidents' Meeting
On April 29 of 2004, coinciding with Inha University 50th Anniversary, Inha was proud to play host to the First Council of Presidents' Meeting of the Global U7 Consortium. The Global U7 Consortium consists of RMIT University (Australia), Xiamen University (China), Le Havre University(France), Inha University (Korea), the University of Haifa (Israel), the University of Rhode Island (USA), as well as the University of Washington (USA). The President of Inha University (Dr. Seoung-Yong Hong) is the inaugural Chair of the Council of Presidents, and for the next three years the Office of the Secretariat of the Global U7 will be based at Inha University.
The First Council of Presidents' meeting culminated in the signing of the Agreement of Global U7 Consortium. At the end of meeting, the Incheon Declaration was announced affirming that each Global U7 Consortium member will concentrate their cooperative and collaborative efforts on education, joint research and building administrative capacity, focusing particularly on the fields of Global Logistics, Business Administration, Marine Affairs and Advanced Technologies. Much press interest centered on the prospect of joint degrees between Inha and member universities of the Consortium. It was also noted that the first initiative of the Global U7 Consortium would be the establishment of a Language Training Center at Songdo New Town, Incheon.
Further, following on from the First Council of Presidents' Meeting, a working group meeting was held. The working group meeting explored the various pathways available to the Consortium for developing education, joint research, and building administrative capacity. A focus of discussion included the various committees formed under the Consortium banner. These committees include an Education Committee headed by RMIT University, a Joint Research Committee headed by the University of Rhode Island, and a Building Administrative Capacity Committee headed by Xiamen University. Even though specific member institutions are leading each Committee, due to their existing experience and skill, it should be noted that all member institutions will assist across all Committees and gain a number of benefits from the results. Matters relating to the Second Council of Presidents Meeting were also discussed at the working group meeting.
