Second Council of Presidents' Meeting

The 2nd Council of Presidents' Meeting (COP) of Global U7 Consortium was held at Xiamen University in China between May 26 and 27, 2005.  Eight universities's Presidents or their equvalents attended the 2nd COP th include representatives from RMIT University(Austalia), Xiamen Univerity(China), University of Le Havre(France), University of Haifa(Israel), Inha Univerity(Korea), University of Rhode Island(USA), University of Washington(USA) and Meiji University(Japan).

During the 1st day of 2nd COP, Dr. Chongshi Zhu, the President of Xiamen University started the meeting by his welcoming address and then Dr. Seoung-Yong Hong, the Chiar of COP and the President of Inha University, had his opening address.  To approve Japan's Meiji University as a new institution, the 2nd COP signed the document approving admissing of new member institution.  Thus, the official name of Global U7 Consortium will be changed into the Global U8 Consortium (GU8) from now.

During the 2nd day, Dr. Seoung-Yong Hong had a progress report on the Consortium.  After that, the Chairs of three Committees (Education Committee, Joint-Research Committee, Building Administrative Capacity Committee) reported on their major issues to the 2nd COP.  Finally, the 2nd COP considered and adopted Xiamen Declaration.

Sone significant contents of Xiamen Declaration are following; The 3rd COP will be held at the University of Rhode Island either in September or October in 2006.  GU8 will start the Master of Global Logistics Management (MGLM) program at Inha University from March in 2006.  Also, a double program in undergraduate logistics area between RMIT University and Inha University will commence in March, 2006.  For the first 3 years, a prearranged number of exchange students up to 10 per year shall be agreed between each GU8 member institution.  To raise joint-research fund, GU8 member institutions will make efforts to explore all possibilities in donating U.S. 150,000 dollar per institution as seed money.
