From the first Olympic games in 776 BC to the highly commercialized spectator sports and highly competitive amateur and collegiate sports of today, sports are a part of our cultural identity. This colloquium will explore many of the most current and vital questions and issues

around the role of sports in contemporary society, including: collegiate athletics and academics, childhood sports and parenting, performance-enhancing drugs in sports, Title IX legislation and its impact, exercise and physical fitness, ethics and sports, and other topics.
