Why do we need the Dreamweaver Templates?
In this day and age, Macromedia Dreamweaver has emerged as web design professionals' tool of choice offering brand new, powerful functionality for creating standards compliant and accessible web sites. One of the main attractive features of Dreamweaver is the Dreamweaver Template and the ease with which these templates can be created and used by even beginners.
A Dreamweaver template is a document that you can use as the foundation to create other web pages in your site. By using Dreamweaver templates, you can designate certain portions of the page as editable regions and the remainder as "locked" (meaning non-editable).
An editable region allows you to change the element on individual Web pages. Examples of elements that would typically change from page to page are content and the title of the page.
Non-editable items in your template are those that will remain the same on all the Web pages in your site. Examples of such items include navigational menus, headers, and footers. These are the elements that, when modified in the original template will be globally updated on the other pages in your site created from that template.
In this way, information common to all pages connected to a template is stored in a single place — the "locked" area of the template. Changes to this area of the template can then be propagated to all pages connected to the template, thus simplifying the task of maintaining a current, up-to-date web site.
