Eligibility
Freshman Eligbility: Entering freshmen are granted automatic admission if they graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class. Letters of admission to the Honors Program are sent to them by the Honors Program Director following acceptance to URI. Other incoming students may be admitted by the Honors Program Director upon submission of their high school transcript, SAT scores and a letter of recommendation from their high school principal or guidance counselor. Ongoing Eligibility: Continuing URI students must maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA or receive permission from the Honors Director. Open access to the Honors Program continues for qualified students throughout their undergraduate years. Some take honors courses to satisfy General Education requirements, while others take them intermittently as electives or undertake a Senior Honors Project. Still others choose to satisfy the 15-credit requirement to complete the program and receive notation on their official transcripts. About 900 URI students participate in the Honors Program.
