University Honors Program

Scholarship Opportunities

The University Honors Program houses the Office of National Fellowships. Each year, students are selected and mentored by faculty committees to participate in many major scholarship competitions.

For many national scholarships, students cannot apply directly to the scholarship organization, but must be nominated by the University. To be considered for nomination, students submit an application to the faculty representative for that particular scholarship or to Kathleen Maher, Assistant Director for National Fellowships. The selection committee selects and nominates the official URI candidate(s). Nominees then complete their official scholarship application with guidance from Ms. Maher, a faculty member or both.

Success Stories

URI students have won or been finalists in a wide range of such prestigious competitions, including the Boren, Fulbright, Goldwater, Madison, Marshall, Rhodes, Truman, and Udall. On this page you'll find a frequently updated selection of recent URI scholar success stories, as well as resources listing all past winners on record. page.

Scholarships Requiring Endorsement

Many prestigious national and international scholarships require the applicant to receive an institutional endorsement from their school. Some of these include the Truman, Goldwater, Udall, Rhodes, Marshall, Boren, Fulbright, Madison, and Carnegie Junior Fellowship. The endorsement requirement also helps the student to better prepare for the often intense application and interview process, as well as exposes them to some of the top faculty at URI.

Other Scholarships

There are many other prestigious and competitive scholarships and fellowships for which students are not required to obtain institutional endorsement. However, the URI Office of National Scholarships is still available as a resource to help students find pertinent scholarships and to guide them through the application process.

You can also search our database of scholarships and fellowships by topic, keyword, etc. This resource is updated regularly, so check back often!

You can read more about these by clicking the title above or by clicking here.
