TITLE:                                    Learning Specialist, Academic Enhancement Center/Central Falls High School

                

DIVISION:                             Office of the President

 

REPORTS TO:                       Executive Assistant to the President and Director, Planning Services and/or to the Director, School Reform, Partnerships & Outreach

 

GRADE:                                 10

 

SUPERVISES:                       Student workers

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Under the supervision of the Executive Assistant to the President and Director, Planning Services, oversee all areas of operation in a learning assistance center located at Central Falls High School.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Collaborate with Central Falls School Department faculty and staff, University of Rhode Island faculty and staff, community partners, and language and learning specialists to develop and deliver a range of in-school and after-school learning support programs.

 

Ensure that all programming is consistent with and supportive of statewide testing and portfolio requirements, individual learning plans, school-based assessments, objectives, instructional methods and recommendations.

 

Recruit, train, and supervise graduate and undergraduate URI students to work as learning assistants and administrative support staff.

 

Create and use appropriate assessment tools to measure and report on program performance.

 

Promote a “culture of learning” with a focus on self-teaching, self-directedness, and motivation to succeed in high school and college.

 

Encourage the development of supportive mentoring relationships between college students, teachers, high school students, and family members.

 

Encourage development of intercultural awareness and intercultural communicative competence in all areas of staff development and programming.

 

Collect quantitative and qualitative data on performance outcomes, and generate regular reports and action plans for review of all Center activities.

 

Oversee all other day-to-day program functions, including maintaining a grant-funded organizational budget.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Perform other duties as required by the URI/Central Falls Partnership.

 

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

 

Personal computers, printers; word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software; other office technology.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

 

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental Conditions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required: Master's degree in education, teaching, or related field; two years of experience working in support of learning with urban student populations (may include work performed as a graduate assistant); experience working with at-risk student populations, such as Limited      English Proficient, special education, or learning disabled students; experience working in a learning assistance environment; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong interpersonal skills.  Preferred:  Bilingual; supervisory experience; experience coordinating learning assistance services; experience planning and conducting staff training and development; experience in education      assessment, data collection, data management and data analysis; demonstrated successful experience in grant writing; experience in budget management.
