                        Position Description

TITLE:            Research Associate III

DIVISION:         Division (College/Dept)

REPORTS TO:       Principal Investigator and/or Director and/or Dean

GRADE:            11

SUPERVISES:       Research assistants and/or others assigned to

                  assist with project.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform independent research work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform, without direction, independent, complex and important research work that is reviewed when completed.

Perform complex experiments involving use of highly technical instruments and devices.  When experiments are completed, work is reviewed.

Responsible for the performance of complex tests on materials or specimens and for analyzing samples.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform additional duties as required.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers; word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in ____________ with three years of experience in (please define the experience) required.  This position requires that the incumbent possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and be able to organize, coordinate and supervise support staff.  Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
