- The Employees Retirement System of Rhode Island (ERSRI) is a contributory retirement system governed by Chapters 16, 36 and 45 of the Rhode Island General Laws. The plan provides retirement, disability, survivor, and death benefits to state employees, public school teachers, and municipal employees who are employed by a participating municipality.
- Any person employed by the State of Rhode Island on at least a 20-hour basis is eligible for membership. Your employment cannot be of a casual or seasonal nature, and your business time must be devoted exclusively to the service of the state. If you meet the Board's eligibility requirements you are then required to participate as a condition of employment.
- The amount that you contribute to ERSRI is based upon a percentage of your total salary, excluding overtime. The percentage for State Employees is 8.75%.
- You become vested after 10 years of contributing service: If vested prior to 7/1/2005, you can retire at age 60 with at least 10 years of service, or at 28 years service at any age. If vested after 7/1/2005, you can retire at age 65 with at least 10 years of service, or with 29 years of service at age 59.
