 Tuition Waivers

Tuition waivers are available to all full-time employees. The waiver covers the general course fee only. All other fees and costs for books are the responsibility of the employee. Tuition waivers are not applicable to EMBA, non-credit or specialty courses. Please refer to the appropriate union for eligibility.

Electronic Tuition Waiver Process

Effective with the 2009 summer session, the tuition waiver process will become electronic. Please discard any current tuition waiver forms you may have, as they will no longer be used.  To submit tuition waivers for URI, CCRI and RIC, employees must first log on to E-Campus on the University’s webpage www.uri.edu.  If you need assistance in logging on to E-Campus, please contact the help desk at 874-7050.

Once you have logged on to E-Campus:

  • Click on “Self Service:”
  • Click on “Faculty Staff Electronic Forms;”
  • Click on “Tuition Waiver Entry.”

Employees should contact Dawn Smith in Human Resources at 874-5567 or dawns@mail.uri.edu if they have difficulty either completing and/or submitting the electronic tuition waiver form.

Employees may begin electronic submission immediately; however, the approval process for summer 2009 will begin in mid-April.

Approved tuition waivers for URI and RIC will be forwarded automatically to their respective Enrollment Services offices by Human Resources. However, CCRI is not ready to receive tuition waiver's electronically; therefore, you must continue to pick up your approved waiver in Human Resources.

Please direct all general questions to either Dawn at 874-5567 or dawns@mail.uri.edu, or
Laura at 874-5271 or Kenerson@uri.edu

Taxable Status of Tuition Waiver

Reciprocal Faculty Dependent Tuition Agreement

The University of Rhode Island participates in the New England Land Grant Reciprocal Faculty Dependent Tuition Agreement.  Both classified and nonclassified employees who meet the current Board of Governors and collective bargaining contract guidelines for tuition waivers are eligible.

Which universities currently participate in the program?

            University of Rhode Island
            University of Connecticut (Storrs)
            University of Maine at Orono

Which costs are covered?

Eligible participants pay in-state tuition, rather than out-of-state tuition, for programs of study at the undergraduate degree level at the university they are attending (if they are not residents already eligible for in-state tuition status).

Who is eligible?

Dependents of fulltime faculty and staff (both classified and nonclassified whose employment qualifies them for benefits) are able to enroll in undergraduate degree programs at any of the participating institutions at the in-state tuition rate.

How long will this program be in effect?

This program remains in effect at each of the participating institutions until such time as that particular institution withdraws its participation in the program.

In such instances, students currently enrolled will not be able to continue (until degree completion) at the in-state tuition rate in force under the program.

How do I get more information and apply for this benefit for my dependents?

Contact Laura Kenerson (4-5271) or Dawn Smith (4-5567) in Human Resources for details.
