of the Principal Investigator, conduct inland and offshore avaian surveys in
Block Island Sound. Required: MS
degree in ornithology, wildlife biology,
environmental sciences, or related degree, or a bachelor's degree in

five years of experience in ornithological surveys; ability to communicate
effectively verbally and in writing; ability to organize, coordinate and

Marine Research Assistant II, PTAA, (107554),
Graduate School of Oceanography. Salary Range: $26,729-$33,517 (Full
time/calendar year rate). This position is limited to one year with extension
contingent on funding. Provide research assistance at and support operations of
the marine plankton lab. Help ensure
safe, efficient and reliable operations of the laboratory facilities and
support research functions both at URI and during seagoing work. Required: Bachelor's degree in biological, marine
sciences or related field; minimum of two years of experience in a laboratory
or research setting; computer literacy, including ability to use Microsoft
Office or equivalent software to produce written reports and graphs; strong
interpersonal skills; ability to function as part of a team; willingness to
work independently; ability to work with a diverse population. Preferred: Knowledge of microbiological or plankton
culturing techniques; data analysis including basic descriptive statistics;
experience with image analysis and digital video; enthusiasm to ask ecological,

Assistant Professor,
Special Education, AAUP Acad,

at the University
of Rhode Island invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Special
Education, beginning Fall of 2009. Teach graduate courses and supervise field
experiences in a new Master's program in Special Education (certification in
mild-moderate disabilities, grades 1-8) designed to prepare highly qualified
special educators for inclusive contexts. Priorities for new faculty expertise
include developmental literacy, positive behavior supports, and assessment.
Teach an introductory course with a focus on educating students with special
needs in inclusive classes to pre-service students in early childhood,
elementary, and secondary education. Additional duties include, but may not be
limited to: advising graduate students; engaging in program development and
accreditation activities; developing partnerships with public schools;
conducting and publishing research; and serving on committees within the School
and University. Required: Earned doctorate in special education or a
closely-related field from an accredited institution, or have a clear
expectation of completion of the doctorate by August 2009; a bachelor's or
master's degree in special education; a minimum of three years of successful
teaching experience with students with mild disabilities in a public elementary
school; ability to work with a diverse population. Preferred: Special education teaching experience in
inclusive elementary or middle public school classes with students with
mild/moderate disabilities; interest in or experience teaching in urban
settings; interest in or experience with obtaining external funding. Review

time/calendar year rate). Position is limited to 09/30/09 with extension
contingent on funding. Under general supervision, report program impacts
monthly on the national OMK website, prepare end of year report, (coordinate RI
OMK team meetings and routine correspondence), facilitate OMK programming for
military families and assist PIs in the preparation of additional funding
requests. Required: Bachelor's
degree in education, youth development, human development, science education or
related field and up to one year of volunteer or professional experience in
related field; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in
writing; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and in
team settings. Must be well-organized,
self-motivated, and interested in collaborating with the Principal Investigator
on all aspects of the project. Basic computer
skills required. Preferred:
Experience managing youth outreach programs; experience with military family
support programs; experience preparing reports for program sponsors/funders.
