SNOW REMOVAL & GROUNDS WORK
SPECIAL POSTING FOR
LOCAL 528 MEMBERS

The Department of Landscape and Grounds is preparing a new 2008-2009 list of Council 94/Local 528 employees to assist, complement or relieve Grounds personnel during snow removal operations and a list for grounds maintenance work.  Employees on the Sign Up list(s) will be notified when additional workers are needed to support the Landscape and Grounds department personnel.  Personnel will be contacted by Seniority and in rotation.

Snow removal work includes shoveling, snow blowing, plowing, de-icing, sanding, operating small equipment and other related duties.  Training for the operation of equipment will be scheduled.  This year we will require and provide additional certification training for snowplow operators.  Employees will be compensated for those training hours.  Grounds maintenance work includes:  weeding, trimming, mulching, planting, raking, mowing, sweeping, litter and trash collection, shoveling, setup and breakdown for campus events, athletic games, and other related duties.

Executive Assistant I, NUNC, (107017), Graduate School.  Salary Range:  $31,675-$66,479   (Full time/calendar year rate).  Serve as executive assistant to the Associate Deans of the Graduate School, providing critical administrative support.  Perform private secretarial duties of a complex and responsible nature. Marine Research Specialist IV, PSA/NEA, (106623), Graduate School of Oceanography.  Salary Range:  $49,296-$61,706 (Full time/calendar year rate).  Position is limited to 04/30/09 with extension contingent on funding. Coordinate paleomagnetic, rock-magnetic, sedimentological, and environmental mapping studies in support of major research programs.  Coordiante day-to-day activities of the URI/GSO Paleomagnetic Laboratory.  Take the leading role in writing manuscripts, reports and grant proposals in the areas of paleomagnetism, rock magnetism, and paleoenvironmental studies.  Using computer systems (Macintosh and PC), provide high-level data analysis (multivariate and time-series) of stratigraphic data from sediment cores. Required:  Master's degree in geology or geophysics; two or more years of laboratory experience in paleomagnetism, sedimentology, rock magnetism and sediment geochemistry; experience with the ESRI ArcGIS suite of software; advanced computer skills and troubleshooting on Mac and PC platforms; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong interpersonal skills; ability to schedule and supervise laboratory activities of undergraduate and graduate students; proven ability to multitask and work independently in a busy laboratory setting; willingness to update GIS skills in order to remain current.  Submit (no emails or faxes, please) a resume and cover letter postmarked by 11-14-08 to: John W. Associate Director for Information Security, NUNC, (106661), Information Technology Services. Salary Range:  $62,828-$135,313 (Full time/calendar year rate).  Reports to the Vice Provost for ITS and works directly with all campus departments including ITS to coordinate security efforts and resources to maximize information security.  Advise the Vice Provost on security-related practices and policies to mitigate information security-related risks to the University's information systems and networks.  Serve as the university's primary responder to technology-related incidents involving the suspected compromise of university networks, computing, or electronic information.  In the course of investigating, restoring, and advising the campus on information security, the Associate Director for Information Security regularly has access to highly sensitive and confidential information such as personal email files, electronic personnel files and actions, and all manner of administrative data in potentially any office on campus including all top administrators such as the president, provost, all vice presidents, deans, and directors.  Such access requires the University's highest level of confidentiality and security.  Required:  Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related field; a minimum six years of information systems experience in progressively responsible roles; an understanding of systems and network administration, including best practices for industry standards; working knowledge of network security technologies such as VPN, firewall, and WLAN as well as computer security technologies for UNIX and PC systems such as antivirus, WLAN security, and middleware; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of technology staff in different units; ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people such as end-users, the media, senior management as well as legal and law enforcement professionals; and guide technical as well as non-technical campus constituents toward increasing their use of best practices regarding information security.  Preferred:  Master's degree in computer science or related field; direct experience as a manager of information security for an organization; experience in developing information security policies, guidelines, and best practices; CISSP, GIAC or comparable certification; intrusion detection system experience; PKI and certificate management experience; experience with Cisco routers and switches.  Please submit a resume and cover letter postmarked by 11-14-08, or apply by e-mail to: req12319@etal.uri.edu.  Mailed applications should be sent to: James M.
