TITLE: Senior Information Technologist, Distributed Support (Office of Undergraduate Admissions)
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (Management Information Services)
REPORTS TO: Manager, Application Development (MIS)
GRADE: 12
SUPERVISES: Support staff, students
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for supporting
information technology systems within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions,
analyze needs and determine and implement appropriate solutions. Provide
authoritative assistance to staff members with desktop computing and
information processing services involved in the business process of
Undergraduate Admissions. May also serve as Senior Information Technologist on
a project team that involves other staff. Perform duties and responsibilities
with minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible
for providing technology support for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for
multiple information processing services. Provide support for the technical
information processes in PeopleSoft, Web applications, score loading, prospecting,
and any other information services applications used in the business processes
of Undergraduate Admissions.
Work with staff from
other departments or vendors of the University to communicate needs, identify
and resolve issues and to ensure efficient information processing.
Analyze the
information technology needs in support of ongoing production support, as well
as new functions and processes. Make
recommendations for appropriate solutions, including software and hardware
alternatives.
Provide support for
the project planning management through the use of project management tools
such as Microsoft Project.
Support analytical
and reporting needs of Undergraduate Admissions using current University
reporting tools such as Crystal, PeopleSoft Query, Microsoft Access, and other
available tools. Write functional
reporting requirements and specifications.
Prepare
presentations for departments as part of the ongoing training effort in the implementation
of all modules. Remain up-to-date with
state-of-the-art technology.
Analyze the
information technology needs of a department or area and determine appropriate
solutions for both technical and internal/external workflow changes.
Provide
authoritative technical consultation to staff of Undergraduate Admissions, including
desktop machine computing.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond to technical
emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed.
Perform all duties
and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Coordinate with
manager regularly.
As part of training,
perform functions normally assigned to a Lead Information Technologist,
although to a lesser degree.
Perform the duties
of an Information Technologist.
Maintain high level
of understanding of current developments in the assigned area of responsibility,
anticipate future needs and participate in planning for those needs.
Perform other
related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; word processing, database management, project management and spreadsheet software.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree; either 2 years of experience in an
information technology position, or 4 years of experience in a position that
included a substantial amount of information technology work; demonstrated
ability to address needs of distributed support; experience in the use of
desktop computer hardware and software (Windows and/or Mac platforms);
experience using database reporting tools such as Crystal Reports and query
languages; evidence of having had experience in performing duties and
responsibilities with only minimal supervision; strong interpersonal skills,
with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to
organize, coordinate, and supervise support staff. Preferred: Experience in higher education; experience using
Microsoft Office products and tools; experience making recommendations and
preparing reports and documentation for multiple types of groups; experience in
presenting these reports to large groups as well as to senior management;
experience supporting needs of administrative technology activities.
