TITLE: Technical Programmer
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (Arts & Sciences: Computer Science)
REPORTS TO: Principal
Investigators
GRADE: 12
BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform programming and software development for digital forensics research projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop new digital forensics techniques for software write blocking in network environments.
Develop software applications on the Windows PE operating system.
Develop driver software for the Windows PE operating system.
Create software prototypes of digital forensics tools resulting from the research using C++ in Microsoft and Linux programming environments.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish and maintain version control for software development.
Attend URI Digital Forensics Group research meetings.
Coordinate testing of software prototypes.
Promote software at booths at conferences and in conference presentations.
Perform additional responsibilities as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Must be proficient in the use of workstations and
multiple operating systems; must have experience with FTK Imager, EnCase Imager, and X-Ways Imager; must have experience in Microsoft
and Linuz programming environments that must include
programming for Windows PE operating systems. Microsoft Professional certification
required. A+ and Net+ certification required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering; Microsoft Professional certification; minimum of two years of experience in software development that includes work in a law enforcement setting, development of forensic software, and development on the Windows PE operating system; experience with FTK Imager, EnCase Imager, and X-Ways Imager; experience in Microsoft and Linux programming environments that include programming for Windows PE operating systems; A+ and Net+ certification; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Preferred: Experience in technology sales/promotion.
