TITLE: Research Assistant I
DIVISION:
Academic Affairs (College of the
Environment and Life Sciences)
REPORTS TO: Coordinator RI
NSF
GRADE: 1
SUPERVISES: Students as required
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general
supervision, perform outreach, information gathering and dissemination
functions related to the RI EPSCoR Program.
Assist with the strategic development of outreach initiatives in support of the goals of the RI EPSCoR Academy.
Assist in the origination and development of newsletter and website content.
Assist with organization, coordination and execution of RI NSF EPSCoR- related events, including annual education and research conferences.
Under general supervision, assist in documenting the research and education activities of the RI EPSCoR Program.
Assist in communicating these activities to relevant audiences as well as the general public.
Assist in all reporting and documentation requirements to fulfill the goals and objectives of the RI NSF EPSCoR Grant.
Assist in organizing and maintaining technical documentation required for performance and reporting of required grant functions.
Travel to educational institutions, state offices, and event
venues within
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND
EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; word-processing,
relational database, Web, photography for the Web, layout, e-mail, scheduling
(calendar), and spreadsheet software. Fax machine, printer and copier
operation. Must possess own
transportation.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental
conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's
degree with up to one year of experience in public, business, research, or
education administration; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and
in writing; excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge of scientific methods;
ability to work independently and to effectively organize and engage students;
spreadsheet, word-processing, e-mail, and Internet software experience. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or
marine or environmental science; experience with writing, photography, or
technical documentation in a university or other scientific setting; experience
with university or other public purchasing procedures.
