TITLE: Research Associate II
DIVISION: Academic

REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator
GRADE: 9
SUPERVISES: Graduate research assistants in laboratory environment
BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform independent research work and train undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory techniques.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform independent important research work under the review of the Principal Investigator.
Under the occasional review of the Principal Investigator, perform complex experiments involving use of various instrumentation.
Perform complex assays on materials or specimens.
Perform rodent surgeries and manage transgenic mouse colonies.
OTHER DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write and edit scientific manuscripts, and assist with grant writing.
Order laboratory supplies.
Perform additional duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; software which includes MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Statistica or SPSS, Sigma Plot
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse
environmental conditions; possible minimal exposure to radioactive materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Master's degree in pharmacology or toxicology; at least two years of research experience in the areas of pharmacology and toxicology; experience in rodent surgery; experience in cell culture, preparation of tissue samples for histochemical analysis, radioimmunoassay, high performance liquid chromatography, western blot analysis, as well as basic molecular biology techniques (i.e., RNA isolation, PCR, plasmid DNA amplification and purification, transient transfection); a publication record that indicates the ability to assist with the completion of research projects; ability to organize and interpret data, and to supervise graduate and undergraduate research assistants; strong interpersonal skills; experience with various software, including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Statistica or SPSS.
