TITLE: Information Technologist
DIVISION: Academic Affairs – (UCS – University Computing Systems)
REPORTS TO: Manager of Internet
Technology, UCS
GRADE: 10
Responsible for developing
and supporting the Academic Roadmap system for the
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES
Work collaboratively with the Roadmap Team
across campus and perform a variety of technical and analytical tasks for
developing and supporting the Academic Roadmap system for the University.
Understand and employ methods such as
business process analysis, use cases, etc. to define user and system
requirements.
Implement and support a web-based Roadmap
system which includes content management capabilities, workflow, online
advising and data integration with campus information systems.
Advise departments and schools on the use and
capabilities of the Roadmap system.
Design and maintain standards compliant
templates and style sheets for the system.
Conduct training and develop related
documentation and tutorials to Roadmap users.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.
VIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions, however, the individual must be able to work safely in an environment with possible exposure to electrical hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree in computer science,
information systems or related field; one year of experience in a Web
development position, or 2 years of experience in a position that included a
substantial amount of Web development work; demonstrated knowledge and skill in
XHTML, CSS, and web authoring tools (e.g., Dreamweaver); experience using
database tools such as SQL query language and building web sites as well as
data-driven web applications with both client- and server-side languages (e.g.,
Javascript, PHP, JSP, and Java) on a range of database platforms (e.g., MySQL
and Oracle); skills in writing technical documentation; experience in the area
of training and providing effective customer services (preferably in higher
education); knowledge of the differences in web browsers, operating systems,
and current web technologies; excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
and ability to work well on a team and to be self-motivated. Preferred: Experience in developing and supporting LAMP
(Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) applications and knowledge of web standards, usability
and accessibility issues are highly desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who can multitask and show their
experience with and enthusiasm for learning and developing new skills and
keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies.
