TITLE: Research Assistant IV
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (HSS: Gerontology)
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator/Project Director
GRADE: 7
SUPERVISES: Interviewers as assigned
BASIC FUNCTION:
Work independently to assist
the Principal Investigator and/or the Project Director in performing routine
and non-routine research in the field of health promotion with older adults.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in recruitment and retention of project participants for federally-funded research project.
Assist Project Director with training of project personnel.
Oversee project interviewers in personal data collection and protocol adherence.
Follow and implement proper research and interviewer screening protocol.
Responsible for proper collection, maintenance, and protection of confidential participant records and data.
Assist Project Director with the preparation of data for annual Institutional Review Board (IRB) updates, grant progress reports, and presentations at professional conferences.
Serve as a liaison between research participants and project staff.
Manage the day-to-day operation of the intervention site office.
Coordinate all participant assessments.
Assist the Project Director in the initial review of participant assessments.
Perform non-routine research
work, including on-line database queries as needed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in regular project meetings and training.
Perform other duties as
required.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal
computers and printers; word processing, database, and spreadsheet software;
certification in human subject research training.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not
substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor’s
degree in health, human service, education, or related field and a minimum of
five years of experience in research which includes participant recruitment,
retention, and screening, or a master’s degree in health, human service,
education, or related field; excellent interpersonal skills, and verbal and
written communication skills; basic computer skills including experience in
constructing and maintaining multiple databases; ability to organize,
coordinate, and supervise support staff. Must be well-organized,
self-motivated, and able to work collaboratively with the Project Director and
management team on all aspects of the research process.
