TITLE: Specialist,
RI-INBRE/Outreach
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (BPS-College of Pharmacy)
REPORTS TO: Program Director and Program Coordinator, RI-INBRE
GRADE: 8
SUPERVISES: Student assistants and support staff as assigned
BASIC FUNCTION:
Within the University’s RI-INBRE (Rhode Island IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence), serve as a liaison to the students, faculty, and administrators at the primarily undergraduate institutions in the Network through campus visits, as well as web-based, and other means of communication. Track and maintain a database of educational and career progression of students trained by the RI-INBRE program. Promote awareness of the mission of the program locally and regionally by participating in research-related functions and activities, and by publishing a newsletter. Assist in other program activities such as the comprehensive assessment of the RI-INBRE Program.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Apply refined communication and organizational skills to serve as a liaison to the students, faculty and administrators, particularly those at the primarily undergraduate institutions in the Network.
Track and maintain a database of educational and career progression of students trained by the RI-INBRE program.
Promote awareness of the RI-INBRE program and advance its mission at the state and regional levels by participating in research-related functions and activities.
Design and edit a newsletter for the RI-INBRE program.
Assist in other program activities, such as the comprehensive assessment of program by internal and external committees.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties relevant
to RI-INBRE program administration as assigned by the Program Director and
Program Coordinator.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, scanner, printers; Web, database, spreadsheet, photoshop, and desktop publishing software; all equipment necessary to produce reports, presentations, and publications described.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in a science related field, communication, marketing, or a related field; three to five years of progressively responsible administrative and/or management experience in a research environment; excellence in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated proficiency in computing, including the following: desktop publishing, word processing, and database management; experience in grant administration, including experience drafting reports to funding agencies; strong organizational skills; ability to travel off-site. Preferred: Relevant experience in a research setting at a university, college, hospital, foundation, or a government agency.
