TITLE: Marine Research Specialist II (Ocean SAMP)
DIVISION: Academic

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, CRC, and Principal Investigators
GRADE: 7
SUPERVISES: May supervise support staff
BASIC FUNCTION:
As part of the
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work closely with the Center’s directors and technical and professional staff on a variety of duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:
Providing research support through the review of relevant library and Internet documents and files, and by coordinating and managing related research and support tasks for Ocean SAMP.
Defining and solving problems related to the collection and analysis of
project-related data.
Serving as liaison in support of principal investigators for
the Ocean SAMP project, analyzing and carrying out support needs for the
program, and assisting in the logistical organization of large workshop and
meeting events.
Preparing quarterly and final progress reports and
supplemental grant requests.
Coordinating and initiating the renewal process for the research grants, and assisting in all phases of proposal preparation activities.
Developing protocols to monitor the grants and to predict
future financial requirements.
Working with the appropriate SAMP Program and University staff in the
preparation of news briefs as directed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as assigned.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printer; word
processing, database management and spreadsheet software, preferably including
PowerPoint, FileMaker, Excel, Word, And PeopleSoft.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s
degree required. The following are required: minimum of two years of experience
in compiling and analyzing research data; experience responding to
informational requests to support research efforts, using resources such as the
library, Internet, interviews and surveys; ability to organize and synthesize
information quickly and efficiently; experience in data management, including
budget forecasting, and preparation of spreadsheets and graphics; ability to
communicate clearly and effectively with diverse, cross-cultural populations,
and to organize and facilitate teams across a range of activities, and to
organize workshops; demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to
manage multiple projects, set priorities and achieve deadlines with efficiency
and accuracy. The following are preferred:
PeopleSoft experience; related fiscal reporting experience; familiarity
with Filemaker Pro and QuickBooks programs.
