TITLE: Research Associate I
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (CELS: Cell & Molecular Biology)
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator
GRADE: 7
SUPERVISES: N/A
BASIC FUNCTION:
Work independently to perform laboratory research in plant molecular biology and the generation and analysis of transgenic plants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform laboratory research work on biofuels crop improvement, including maize and switchgrass.
Work in the laboratory to generate and analyze transgenic plants, performing duties such as media preparation, tissue culture, maintenance of experiments, and record keeping.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support PI in the preparation/submission of grant proposals.
Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers and printers; word processing, database management and statistical analysis software; laboratory equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse
environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree in biology, plant biology, molecular biology, chemical engineering, or a related field, with five years of experience in cell culture, generation of transgenic plants, vector construction or related areas, OR a master’s degree in biology, plant biology, molecular biology, or a related field, with a background in molecular biology and/or transgenic plants; strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment or independently; ability to work with a diverse population; demonstrated computer literacy, (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
