Position Description
TITLE: Research Assistant III
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (CELS: Cell & Molecular Biology)
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator and/or Research Associate
GRADE: 5
SUPERVISES: N/A
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, perform research work on biofuels crop improvement and contribute to grant writing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform research work on biofuels crop improvement in switchgrass.
Contribute to program management, including the ordering of scientific equipment chemicals and supplies, incubators, microscopes DNA specific equipment.
Contribute to grant writing and organization.
Interface with scientific equipment vendors.
Contribute to editing of scientific manuscripts.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers and printers; word processing, database management and statistical analysis software; laboratory equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse
environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor of Science degree with three years of work experience in biology, plant biology, chemical engineering, or a related field; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to work well in a team environment or independently; demonstrated computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and statistical analysis software.
