TITLE: Research Associate I
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (CELS/NRS)
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator
GRADE: 7
SUPERVISES: Field assistant
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction
of the Principal Investigator, conduct inland and offshore avian surveys in
Block Island Sound.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct inland and offshore avian surveys in Block Island Sound.
Supervise field assistant conducting avian surveys.
Design inland and offshore avian surveys.
Analyze survey data.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with writing final project report.
Perform additional duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: MS degree in ornithology, wildlife biology, environmental sciences, or related degree, or a bachelor’s degree in ornithology, wildlife biology, environmental sciences, or related degree, and five years of experience in ornithological surveys; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to organize, coordinate and supervise support staff; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse population; experience analyzing large data sets. Preferred: Experience designing avian surveys; GIS skills; strong writing skills which include peer-reviewed publications.
