TITLE:                       Research Assistant III

DIVISION:                Academic Affairs (CELS: Nutrition & Food Sciences)

REPORTS TO:          Principal Investigator and/or Dean and/or Department Chair

GRADE:                    5

SUPERVISES:           Undergraduate student interns and undergraduate student help

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for assisting with the development and delivery of community-based programs as part of a USDA-funded nutrition assessment and outreach grant targeting limited income populations. Assist PI in conducting applied research and community-based nutrition education as part of a regional USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (USDA SNAP) project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in conducting community-based nutrition and risk assessment with targeted populations.

Assist in the development, delivery and evaluation of nutrition education and outreach programs and materials.

Assist in the collection, management and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to program assessment, education and evaluation efforts.

Compile local, state and federal reports as required.

Serve as the nutrition information liaison to clinical, social-service, housing and other agencies and institutions serving limited income populations.

Supervise undergraduate program personnel.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform additional duties as required.    

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Desktop and Laptop computers; word processing and database management software.   

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field with three years of combined experience in clinical and community nutrition; experience in community-based nutrition education and applied research for low-income Latino audiences; excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills; ability to organize, coordinate and supervise student workers; demonstrated ability to write for lay audiences; demonstrated ability in data management and analysis; fluency in Spanish, both verbal and written and a commitment to diversity.
