Position Description
TITLE: Information Technologist
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (Arts & Sciences Dept of Computer Science)
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator
GRADE: 10
SUPERVISES: Assistants as assigned
BASIC FUNCTION:
Implement and maintain digital forensics software and equipment systems, and provide dissemination of digital forensics research results and training to customers/end users of the research products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement, maintain and document digital forensics research environment software as directed by the Digital Forensics Center (DFC) management team leaders.
Provide training materials for training customers/end users in the use of digital forensics software developed on research grants.
Provide training to DFC staff and others; evaluate digital forensics software tools and services; and prepare and present web-based and multi-media dissemination and training of research results.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform functions normally assigned to a DFC Lead Information Technologist, although to a lesser extent.
Maintain a high level of understanding of current developments in the digital forensics field and anticipate future needs.
Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND
EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, word processing, database and spreadsheet software; web development software including Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, PhP; Digital forensics software including EnCase, SAFE Block, FTK Imager, SAFE.
ENVIRONMENTAL
CONDITIONS:
The incumbent is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: Bachelor's
degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business, with demonstrable course
work in each of the following: digital forensics, web development, and business
software, or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and
additional experience; one year of experience in an information technology
position or two years of experience that included a substantial amount of
information technology work. Whether one
or two years of experience, the experience must include all of the following: working
with digital forensics software EnCase, SAFE Block,
FTK Imager, and SAFE; web development, and development of college teaching and
professional training web-based multi-media material. Must have technical
knowledge of digital forensics and be proficient in: PhP
Programming, Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop. Must
possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively
verbally and in writing. Must be able to interpret and adhere to
institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules, regulations, and standards,
and to communicate the interpretation to subordinates and others. PREFERRED:
Experience in the areas of teaching, providing effective training material
development (preferably in higher education), and preparing and presenting
reports and training material in web-based and multi-media forms.
