Position Description

POSITION IS LIMITED TO 7/31/2010 WITH EXTENSION CONTINGENT ON FUNDING.

TITLE:                                Research Assistant II

 

DIVISION:                         Academic Affairs (Arts & Sciences: Physics)

 

REPORTS TO:                Principal Investigator

 

GRADE:                              3

 

SUPERVISES:                 Assistants as assigned

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Perform cell biology or animal research work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Assist in performing HPLC separation.

 

Perform cell culture maintenance and basic cell culture assays.

 

Assist in animal work.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Place equipment/supply orders as needed.

 

Perform other duties as required.

 

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

 

Personal computers, printers; word processing and spreadsheet software; laboratory instruments.

                                                              

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

 

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cell Biology or Animal Sciences; two years of experience in a research environment in cell        biology or animal science (two years of research work in cell biology or animal sciences during Master’s studies may be considered); strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team setting; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to work with diverse groups.

Salary Range: $27,531 - $34,523
