Position Description

Position is part-time (20 hrs/wk) and is limited to 06/30/2010.

TITLE:                                Research Associate IV

DIVISION:                        Academic Affairs (Institute for Human Sci & Svs)

REPORTS TO:               Professor/Principal Investigator

GRADE:                             13

SUPERVISES:                 Support staff

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for a variety of training and development activities specific to funded training grants.  Develop the training curricula for designated areas, including the assessment instruments. Work closely with graduate students, staff, faculty and external consultants on sponsored training projects with the RI Developmental Disabilities Council.  Provide formative and summative reporting to funding agency, both in writing and verbally.  Seek external funding.  Act on behalf of the PI as required, including representing the PI at meetings (e.g., meetings with various departments of state government) to seek new contracts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and perform, without direction, a variety of service delivery and consultation activities.

Responsible for modifying and delivering the training curricula (e.g., Healthy Lifestyles) to enhance self-determination.

Assist in the preparation of additional curriculum materials and reports as needed.

Independently attend and monitor legislative activities and meetings related to persons with disabilities held at various locations throughout the State of Rhode Island.

Develop and negotiate grant proposals and budgets for external funding.  Serve as sole PI or c0-PI for these grants.

Collect and analyze data from multiple sources and develop 5-year policy plan for Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities grant.  

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform additional duties as required.      

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers; MacIntosh, Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro and MacDraw, and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.   Must possess license as a physical therapist in RI.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MA in adult education or closely-allied discipline and four years of experience related to developing, implementing and administering adult training programs required, or Ph.D. in adult education or closely-allied discipline.  The following are also required: licensure as a physical therapist in Rhode Island; experience in the field of developmental disabilities, specifically with Developmental Disabilities Councils; proven experience in writing funding proposals and in program evaluation; record of publications in the field of developmental disabilities; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; ability to attend and participate in off-campus training activities; excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills; ability to collect and analyze data.

Salary Range: $58,870 - $74,315 (salary to be prorated for PT schedule)
