TITLE:                       Assistant Director, Student Life/Violence Prevention &

                                    Advocacy Services

 

DIVISION:                Student Affairs

 

REPORTS TO:          Dean, Students

 

GRADE:                     12

 

SUPERVISES:           Coordinator, Violence Prevention & Advocacy Services          

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

 

Organize, develop and administer a comprehensive, University-wide, violence prevention and advocacy program, including direct services, educational training, and a comprehensive peer advocacy program.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide crisis intervention services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment, including all necessary information and referrals.

Plan, organize, and implement crisis intervention and advocacy services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment for students, faculty, and staff.

Teach course(s) for credit for Peer Education Training and make classroom presentations as requested. 

Supervise the Peer Advocates in the implementation of classroom presentations and in providing initial consultation with victims. 

Plan, manage and organize the flow of assignments and evaluation of undergraduate and graduate students for academic credit.

Assist the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Dean of Students in developing, maintaining and enhancing the appropriate reporting protocol.

Ensure University compliance with regulations, standards, and protocol, including serving as the clearinghouse for mandated reporting of crimes of sexual violence as per the Cleary Act.   

Serve as the chief liaison on campus for the Campus Police, the Counseling Center, Health Services, the Athletic Department, Greek Life, the Orientation Team, and student, staff, and faculty groups for violence against women prevention programs and crisis intervention.

Collaborate with Health Services and South County Hospital to create and implement sexual assault evidence collection kit and other necessary health care protocols for victims.

Implement a comprehensive training program at all summer Orientation sessions. 

Develop and maintain outreach strategies and effective public relations by promoting collaboration and   increasing program visibility.

Research and develop grant and contract proposals to support violence prevention and advocacy services programs.  

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct fundraising projects to supplement a budget for the violence prevention and advocacy services program.

Create and maintain computerized resource files of all trainings, confidential client logs, and evaluation of Peer Advocates.

Evaluate the efficacy of trainings, outreach to clients, and Peer Advocate programs.

Provide broad support and outreach to the URI Providence and Narragansett Bay Campuses on violence prevention issues.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers and printers; word processing, database management and spreadsheet software, including Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

 

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social science, student affairs, or related areas required. The following are also required:  a minimum of three years’ experience in developing, organizing, providing       educational training, and managing a sexual violence prevention program on a college campus; demonstrated strong writing and speaking skills; and proven managerial skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently in a team-oriented environment.  Previous supervisory experience is also required.  Past experience working with volunteers, volunteer groups, faculty, staff and senior management is preferred.
