Position Description
TITLE: Higher Education Planner/Space & Facilities
DIVISION: Administration
REPORTS TO: Director, Office of Capital Planning & Design
GRADE: 13
SUPERVISES: May
supervise the work of support staff and student assistants.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the general oversight of the University’s space management, campus planning and landscape infrastructure design.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Director of Planning and Design,
the position is responsible for the following planning activities:
Analyze requests for space and develop
recommendations to address needs within existing University space and budgetary
restraints. Present recommendations to
the University’s Committee for Space Enhancement, Design, and Allocation.
Manage campus space assignments and utilization,
coordinate space requests, process, coordinate, and implement move plans.
Conduct strategic studies that relate to long-term space/facilities
development and development of options and plans for University facilities.
Assist in the preparation of the annual capital
budget and capital budget renewal requests.
Participate in the development of the University Master
Plan, including planning for public/private partnerships on leased University
land.
Campus planning responsibilities include the
development and management of exterior hardscape design standards and the planning
of sidewalks, roads, and landscape infrastructure.
Participate in the long-range strategic planning of University
facilities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers and printers; word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.
ENVIRONMENTAL
CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s
degree from an accredited higher education institution with a concentration in
planning, architecture, or interior design; five years of professional
experience in planning and management of facility space, preferably in a higher
education setting; significant experience with interior space planning and
architectural design procedures; general knowledge of fire codes and building
systems; demonstrated computer proficiency, including ability to utilize
Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; demonstrated sound analytical
and organizational skills, and excellent abilities in oral and written
communications and presentations; demonstrated capability to work in a
collaborative decision making environment, and proven ability to handle multiple
priorities concurrently. PREFERRED:
general campus planning experience; knowledge of AutoCAD space management
software programs and graphics software.
