Position Description

TITLE: Marine Research Assistant I

DIVISION: Academic Affairs (Graduate School of Oceanography)

REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator and/or Marine Research Associate

GRADE: 1

SUPERVISES:

BASIC FUNCTION:

Assist in performing routine research work or simple tests on materials or specimens under direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in simple analyses of samples.

Perform minor research work under direct supervision.

Handle routine technical instruments required for performance of experiments.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers, word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree with up to and including one year of experience.
