Interview Questions

In what ways have you personally experienced Student Affairs administrators and staff collaborating to make a positive difference in the lives of students:

With all the career fairs we do, we get to work with a lot of different student groups and departments. We need to evalute the students needs and work with as many different departments and companies as possible to help our students.

How in the past have you felt empowered and valued in your work:

Students are the biggest empowering factors. It feels so great to get a thank you note or an email from a student a few years later just to update you on how well they are doing because of my help.

Overt expressions of appreciations is so nice. In fact, receiving flowers as a thank you for a job well done is very motivating.

Knowledge is power. The more knowledge we have, the more we can get our work done without mistakes.

Our office has a lot of positive energy. At times, we have so much on our plates we are spread so thin. But the energy we get for each other makes it all worth while.

In what ways have you been encouraged to be innovative and take risks:

Our office is known for being innovating and taking risks. What other office dresses up as lobsters and hearts?

There is no failure when you move forward - even if it is just a little step. Failure should not be looked at negatively, when you fail, you are still learning.

Technology in the office is always changing. We have to take risks when we decide what new program will benefit us the best.

We work well together to create new ideas. Brainstorming is a fun part of new ideas - you can be silly and no one cares. Some of our best ideas started off as a joke.

If you could wish for positive changes to be introduced in the next few years that would enhance the well-being of the URI community, what would they be:

The physical layout of student affairs could be improved. Put us all in a central area. Students get frustrated having to walk all over the campus to get something accomplished.

We should have more SA interactions. We do not know who is in out division. It is easier to refer to other departments if we know who we are referring the students too. Interactions and teamwork goes together very nicely.
