As you are preparing to take this test be sure to download Praxis I Tests at a Glance, available at http://www.ets.org/praxis/. These include sample test questions and test-taking strategies.

  • Applicants with disabilities who wish to request testing accommodations need to read the information provided by ETS (http://www.ets.org/disability/index.html ) and seek assistance from the URI Office of Student Disabilities Services early in the application process.

  • Applicants for whom the primary language is not English (PLNE) may be eligible for additional time on the PPST. For further information, contact Dr. JoAnn Hammadou: joannh@uri.edu.

The PPST is offered in a paper-based or computer-based format:

Paper-based:
The PPST tests in Reading, Mathematics, and Writing are each one hour long. The Writing test consists of a 30-minute multiple choice and a 30-minute essay section. The PPST is typically given on campus at URI in September and November. Many other test sites are available in RI or out of state. Visit ETS online http://www.ets.org/praxis/ or stop by the Office of Teacher Education for details.

Computer-based (CBT): The PPST in this format is composed of computer-delivered questions (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) that require selecting a single or multiple responses, highlighting or reordering information, or providing constructed responses. Each testing session is two hours to allow time for tutorials on computer use, the test itself, and the collection of background information for score reporting. All computer-based testing is by appointment at over 300 test sites throughout the United States. Information on computer-based PPST (registration, fees and locations) can be found at http://www.ets.org/praxis/prxcbt.html#apptcbt.
