1990 - present

  Anatomy/Physiology, Applied Biology and Chemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Microbiology and Vocational Sciences. All levels of classes taught including: collaborative special education classes with numerous self-contained students and high ratio of students with extensive IEPs and 504s.

1989 – 1990

  Taught Chemistry (all levels) and freshmen level physical science at the high school and taught 7th grade science for middle school team.  Team leader for third quarter of the year; organized team events and projects, led team meetings on a regular basis.

  • Responsibilities: Supervision and articulation of curriculum for 7-12 science; development of budget; purchasing, organization and maintenance of science materials and equipment; hiring and mentoring new science teachers; scheduling science department personnel; coordination and support of science sponsored activities such as Science Olympiad
  • Served on numerous committees: National Honor Society Faculty council, Scholarship committee, chaired Curriculum Committee for NEASC Accreditation, contract negotiating committee for teacher evaluation, adviser/advisee program and curriculum committee (trained by the Harvard Negotiating Project team), co-authored self-study report for 2000 SALT evaluation, 7 – 12 Language Arts and writing across the curriculum committee.

  Research and Science
   
  • Dissertation research – The effects of a kit-based science curriculum and intensive science professional development on elementary students’ attitude toward science. Administered achievement test and attitudinal surveys, collected and analyzed in 60 5th and 8th grade classes in 7 RI districts. Presented research to AERA (San Diego) and NARST (Vancouver) conferences 2003
  • Master’s research project - genetics research utilized molecular biology techniques to study stress-induced mutations in maize
  • Organized and conducted molecular research - USDA project to study genetic recombination and gene conversion in collaboration with scientists at Yale and URI
  • Assessment and rehabilitation of chronically ill children at RI Hospital
  • Conducted research on assessment techniques used to admit patients with acute asthmatic condition at Rhode Island Hospital emergency room
  • Performed all laboratory tests at Kingstown Animal Hospital. Assisted in surgical procedures, responsible for routine and emergency care of animals, managed office, supervised other assistants
  • Promote and guide research projects for high school students as integral component of science curriculum
